The Field, Distance, Hurdles Development Meet is held in January and as the name suggests, it is comprised of field events (throws, jumps), distance events (800m, 1500m, 3000m, 5000m) and hurdles events (70mh, 80mh, 100mh, 110mh, 400mh).
Not as popular as the First Chance meet, this meet is growing, Jamaicans generally prefer the sprint events, however, lack of equipment is seen as the main reason these events are not more popular.

First Chance Development Meet
The First Chance Development Meet is regarded as the "first chance" athletes in Western Jamaica get to qualify for National Athletics Championships or Boys & Girls Champs.
The meet is normally held on the first or second Saturday of January just as the schools return from the Christmas break. The meet consists of only track events from the 100m sprint to the 1,500m. No field events or hurdle events are conducted.
